Home-Start Guernsey recruits and trains volunteers from the Channel Island of Guernsey. We then carefully match the volunteer with a family in need of support. Volunteers are from all walks of life, each and every one a parent or even grandparent, all with a little free time available each week to help provide emotional and practical help to local families. Support is confidential, flexible and totally responsive to the family’s needs.
Home-Start Guernsey is a local charity which has provided invaluable support and friendship to families in the Bailiwick of Guernsey since 2008 and has achieved positive outcomes for hundreds of families living in the community.
Home-Start Guernsey is proud to be part of the children’s charity the Youth Commission for Guernsey & Alderney. Home-Start Guernsey is affiliated to the national organisation, Home-Start UK, but we are autonomous and responsible for our own management and securing our own funding. Home-Start UK provides advice and support through a local Family Services Specialist and a stringent Quality Assurance review process ensures the scheme operates effectively.
We have 2 members of staff and a trained team of volunteers who visit families at home and help support parents at our family, toddler group – Dragonflies.
Who we are
Emma – Scheme Manager
Emma has been the Home-Start Manager since 2021; having previously been the Operational Lead for the one-to-one service at the Youth Commission and a Primary School teacher in England. As Manager, she oversees the day-to-day running of the charity and supports staff and volunteers directly working with our wonderful Guernsey families.
As a mum of a 3 year old son, Emma is aware of some of the challenges parents/carers face. Her professional dream is for all parents to know where to turn to in a time of need.
Ally – Play Leader
Ally plans and delivers our amazing Dragonflies parent/carer toddler groups. The best part of her job is being able to offer a safe space for people to come and feel their best selves. Ally loves sup boarding in her spare time as well as having adventurous days with her dog and 2 boys.
